Nice Guys DJ is offering a DJ class special.  4 sessions for $200.  In this class taught by Hans Daniels you will learn:

So you've said "I do" and the pressure of the wedding ceremony is over.  Now it's time to party!

Wedding_introductions

Wedding party introductions is one of my favorite moments during the wedding reception. 

You may choose to have either the entire wedding party introduced or just the bride and groom.  Here's how it works:  The DJ will announce each couple as they enter the room.  He will then pause, bring down the music, and build tension before announcing the bride and groom.  "Now ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together, make some noise, the first time introduced as a couple MR AND MRS ..." The crowd erupts in applause as the giddy couple make their way to the center of the dance floor.  

The music is the key ingredient.  Some couples have a favorite that is special to them.  Others pick something popular.  Fast tempo and high energy is usually what makes for great introduction songs.  Below are a few of the top wedding introduction songs listed on my facebook page http://facebook.com/NiceGuysDJ .

There are as many DJ styles as Baskin Robbins ice cream flavors. Here are a few examples:

  • There are DJ's that blend two songs together beautifully to create a new song (aka mash-ups).
  • There are DJ's that stick to a specific genre.  This DJ will play songs that the crowd has never heard before.  They will blow them away with their rare finds and their ability to tell a story through music.  
  • There are DJ's that play popular music and everyone in the crowd sings along to every song.
  • There are also DJ's that scratch.  This DJ has always stood in a class on their own - they stand a little taller in the DJ world.
Recently I have taken a "stab" at scratching (OK, lame joke).  I have decided that since I am a professional, I am not going to limit myself to just one style of DJing. This video is after a couple months of practicing AND one week after reading my favorite new blog (StudioScratches.com)

Not every party starts at a peek.  As a matter of fact, I don't know any parties that people walk in the door and immediately start going bonkers.  I think that would be a little weird.

As a DJ, I have total control over the crowd (scary, I know).  The game plan is to get everyone comfortable on the dance floor.  Then, gradually increase the energy as the night goes on.

Watch this wedding video as I play in order the following songs: "Hey Ya", "Shout", "Footloose", to "Party Rock Anthem".  Even the older folks in the crowd can't help but to loose their minds to LMFAO!

You wouldn't want your jewelry designer to specialize in only one kind of diamond cut.  So why would you want your DJ to specialize in one genre of music?

Back to the jeweler analogy.  You would want someone that has been well trained in every kind of diamond shape, cut, and style that is available.  You would even want the graduate gemologist (GG) to be well educated in diamond styles that you didn't know existed.

The more knowledgeable an artist is with his or her material, the more creative they can be with their art.

The material that I work with as a professional DJ is obviously music.  The more genres of music that I can arm my turntables with, the more I can create an amazing atmosphere for any and every party.

My husband and I had a tight budget for our wedding, so we thought we would save money by using an MP3 for music.  We had discussed this with some friends who had used an MP3 during their wedding, and they recollected that the music was barely loud enough for anyone to hear so no one danced.  Another friend said that an MP3 wedding they attended was so mellow that it just felt like a dinner party.  At the last minute, we changed our minds and decided to hire Hans to DJ our wedding.  We both agree that hiring Hans was the BEST money spent on the entire wedding because he made our wedding a real party - a true celebration!  The dance floor was packed the entire night, and so many people commented to me about what a great job he did.  He read the crowd perfectly, knew just the right song to play and when, and was not attention-seeking like other DJs I've seen.  I loved seeing my friends and family laughing and enjoying the evening, and it definitely would not have been the same without Hans.  He was super easy to work with, made great suggestions about songs to play, and was really accommodating.  Splurge on the music and hire Hans - it will be the best money you will spend on your wedding!!

With today's technology it's not hard for a DJ to appear to be a musical genius.  A Google search for billboard top 100 and you can tackle most parties with a "B" DJ grade.  But how do you get an "A+"?

Here are a few suggestions:

1)   Pull up a song that was a banging track 5 years ago.  Most of the time, people have forgotten about it and they forgot how much they LOVE that song!  For example: TOP 20 SONGS OF 2006. (Come on... Who wouldn't go crazy to "Grillz" or "SexyBack")

2)   If you do play a track that is WAY overplayed, and people start walking off the floor...(One time I made the mistake of playing "Fireflies" by Owl City) DON'T PLAY THE WHOLE SONG!  Don't even wait for the chorus if they look at you like they are going to eat you.  Immediately play "Teach Me How To Dougie" and watch them do a 180 back to the dance floor.

3)   A lot of times people are intimidated to come up to the DJ booth.  They have been yelled at for years and years to "Leave the DJ alone!" So they get really drunk and come bombard you anyway. Or they arrive to your booth already in a bad mood.  So my suggestion; Invite them to come up.  I've even gone as far as saying "Hey y'all, I'm a real terrible DJ.  I don't know what to play unless you come give me suggestions."  Of course this is tongue-in-cheek, but it get's the conversation going.  Which gets me to my next tip.

4)   Calling all DJ's... You are an entertainer, not a jukebox.  For the price they paid you, they could have bought a really nice home stereo.  So what makes you think that playing song after song is going to give you that "A+" DJ grade?  Like the Beck song says "Two Turntables and a microphone".  You need to communicate with the crowd. You have a mic, use it!  But BE WARNED... overuse this privilege and you will become the obnoxious DJ that no one can stand.

5)   Last, but not least, Be Nice!  I know this may be a weird standard that we use at "Nice Guys DJ", but I feel like it's a pretty basic rule.  #1 tip of being nice is: "The person that writes the checks, makes the rules".  Meaning if Billy Bob booked the gig and he wants to hear "Meat Loaf", you do the greatest transition of your life into the best Meat Loaf song and you act like you LOVE IT!

This weekend I had the opportunity to DJ an amazing wedding at Le Bam Events & Design Studio (www.bamartspace.com) in Atlanta.  Le Bam is located at the corner of Piedmont and Monroe in Midtown Atlanta.

Brandon and Jessica Hamilton looked amazing!  The event space had a whimsical theme throughout and the newly weds fit the scene perfectly.  Brandon, being a super bad bass player, had a little jam session in the middle of the event.
